About World Polio Day

World Polio Day is celebrated every year on 24th of October  with the aims:
  • To raise awareness of the importance of polio vaccination
  • To protect every child from this devastating disease
  • To celebrate the many parents, professionals and volunteers whose contributions make polio eradication achievable. 

The World Polio day spotlight the efforts made globally to end poliomyelitis (polio). Polio is the life-threatening disease caused by poliovirus, a human enterovirus. WHO committed to eradicate polio in 1988.

It is important to ensure a polio-free future for all of us which can be done by continuing  to maintain high immunization coverage, implementing high-quality surveillance of polio, and preparing to respond polio outbreak.
