The concept of World Lung Day (WLD) was first conceived at the 2016 FIRS Kyoto Assembly meeting hosted by then FIRS President Michiaki Mishima. FIRS identified the necessity for improved lung health to help meet the SDGs goals given the rapid pace of global industrialization disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable as a result of age extremes,social deprivation, poor living conditions, economic disadvantage, tobacco smoking, and environmental insults.
The theme of WLD for the year 2022 is
"Lung health for all"
